Why We Love Bel Air

All Fresh Prince jokes aside, Bel Air is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the entire Westside. It’s a peaceful getaway from the busyness of surrounding areas. The Getty is only a ten-minute drive, and a winding, leisurely ride through Mulholland Drive will offer gorgeous views of the surrounding city. Attractions like the Bel Air Hotel, a luxury boutique hotel that was famous with Old Hollywood stars, are perfect for a brunch out on the terrace. Take a look at some of some of your favorite celebrity homes - or at least the outside of them.

Gorgeous Views

Bel Air is home to some of the most incredible homes, and most of those homes have stunning views of the valley or LA. Roll a joint, sit back, and take it all in.

Bel Air Hotel

This luxury hotel was frequented by old Hollywood stars like Grace Kelly, Audrey Hepburn, Paul Newman, Jimmy Stewart, and Robert Redford.

Food and Culture

Go to the Vibrato Grill Jazz for upscale American dining and live jazz music, or Shu Restaurant for the best sushi of your life. Il Segreto of Bel Air offers amazing Italian cuisine.

Did you know that Bel Air was named after Alphonzo Bell?

Bell was a Los Angeles native who played a significant role in developing Southern California into what it is today. Bell struck oil on his ranch in Santa Fe Springs and established the Bell Petroleum Company. He used some of his money to develop high-end real estate communities in West Los Angeles, including parts of the Pacific Palisades, Westwood, and Beverly Hills. In 1922, he founded Bel Air Estates, which would later become the Bel Air we know today.

Bel Air has plenty of interesting facts and “did you know?” trivia. For example, Marilyn Monroe had her last photoshoot with Vogue at the Hotel Bel-Air six weeks before she died in 1962. The Bel Air Hotel that is now a favorite suite for celebrities was once Alphonzo Bell’s manure stable. You can also see the house from the classic The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, which was built in 1937 and is located on North Bristol Avenue.
