Did you know that Rancho Park was given its name by an area booster after World War II?
Rancho Park was given its name by real-estate broker Bill Heyler in the 1930s. Bill opened his own real estate office on Pico Boulevard in 1927. He wanted the new community to be separated from the Westwood community. It was very important to Heyler to give families the chance to settle happily into their new neighborhood in Rancho Park as well as preserve its beauty.
Rancho Park had an interesting beginning. It started out as a middle-class area with housing mainly consisting of Spanish Colonial bungalows as well as ranch houses. Prior to housing developments, the land was used for agriculture. It was once a cattle range and an expansive field of beans. In 1936, Olympic Boulevard extended westward through the Westwood neighborhood. Those living south of Olympic wanted to distinguish themselves from the larger community to the north. This is how Rancho Park came to be.
